Staying Healthy in College

ADHD Drug Abuse

While I got a chuckle out of this, it’s really a pretty accurate description of how a lot of college students who abuse ADHD drugs feel. Just sitting in class it’s amazing how many students I hear talking about how to get ADHD drugs, how they are on them and have been up on night, or how they are selling them. I personally take Vyvanse, which is not discussed in this article, but it is also a ADHD drug. I’m always amazed by how many people want to pay me 20 dollars for just one pill, much less, a lot more for multiple pills.

According to the article Ritalin and Adderall are the two ADHD drugs most likely to be abused because it gives students without ADHD a euphoria. Another reason students abuse the drugs are so they don’t have to sleep. Whether it’s to study or for social reasons, sleeping is the last thing most college students have time for.

While there are many short term effects students think they can handle, students really need to consider the long term health effects abusing ADHD drugs can have on their mental and physical health.
